URGENT CALL TO ACTION: WHITE OUT NOVEMBER 10
ANNOUNCEMENT OF NOVEMBER 10 DAY OF SOLIDARITY
We are announcing an urgent call for a Global Day of Solidarity with Egypt’s political prisoners on Thursday, November 10, 2022, during the UN Climate Change Conference (COP 27) in Sharm El-Sheikh. On Thursday, we join a growing number of civil society organizations, activists, and public figures in wearing white — the color worn by Egypt’s tens of thousands of wrongfully detained individuals — and sharing messages of solidarity in person and on social media.
We recognize the urgency in identifying solutions to climate change, particularly for those most vulnerable, including in Egypt and on the African continent. Yet, we insist that the goals of COP 27 cannot be achieved without the full participation of civil society, and we refuse to participate in the greenwashing of Egypt’s human rights abuses.
We call on any in attendance at COP 27 to wear white during any events that occur on November 10.
We call on any watching COP 27 from afar to wear white in solidarity.
We call on any supporters to post videos, photos, or messages of support on social media using the hashtag #FreeThemAll.
